COLOURFUL cats and dramatic landscapes will be on show in a collection of paintings to be exhibited in Okehampton.

The bright and varied work of Roy Ralph, from Lydford, will be displayed at the Arts Gallery, Red Lion Yard, from September 29 to October 25.

A former art teacher and British Museum curator, 72-year-old Roy injects an element of autobiography into his pictures.

His landscapes convey drama and human history while his Dartmoor towns are captured with a quirky humour.

And cats, which feature heavily in Roy's work, are depicted in virtually every colour of the rainbow!

Roy's career in art started at age 14, when he won a place at the Royal College of Art.

But it was not until 1986, when he and wife Sylvia moved to Lydford, that he was able to devote all his time to painting.

Roy and Sylvia recently celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
