AN elder of the canine world, who was brought to Tavistock's Margaret Green Foundation Trust sanctuary six weeks ago in an appalling condition, has found a loving home. Ten-year old Margo, a Collie X Labrador, was brought into MGFT Animal Rescue as a stray. Her skin was in a terrible condition — she had flea dermatitis, which was untreated and uncomfortable. After treatments and tender loving care, Margo became the proud new pet for a Plymouth family, the Whitbourns. They have looked after a few dogs over the years — an elderly Border Collie, an energetic Border Collie and a demanding Springer X Collie — and decided an older animal was more fitting for the family. Mrs Whitbourn said: 'We searched the rescue centre websites, and found several older dogs. Not having adopted one before, we were anxious to find one which didn't have behaviour problems, and was quite calm. You can imagine our delight at finding Margo at Wingletang. She was described as a ten- year-old Collie X, so off we went to meet her — one hour and a short walk later Margo was sat on Tim's knee licking his face. How could we refuse? 'She has gone from being fairly clingy to being quite happy in company, and recently went to stay by herself with a doggy friend for the weekend, and didn't show signs of distress. 'Obviously as we have taken on a ten-year old, we won't have the pleasure of her company as long as if she came to us as a pup, but the satisfaction of giving such a loving dog a second chance more than makes up for that. 'We certainly feel that there are many benefits to both dog and owner and would strongly recommend to anyone who is looking for a civilised and contented companion, that they consider an older animal. You won't regret it.' A spokesperson from Wingletang said: 'Margo was loved at MGFT as she was a bit of a clown and fun to have around, but she managed to get a new loving home, which she most definitely deserved.'
