INITIAL planning permission has been granted for two projects to develop sports facilities at Tavistock College and Football Club.

The first will use land on both sites to create buildings for changing rooms, a parking area and an all-weather playing surface.

The other is the change of use of land at Tavistock FC in Crowndale Road to provide eleven pitches of varying sizes.

The projects were each set a series of conditions, including specific hours for use of the sites, details of floodlighting, landscaping and fencing, and that there must be a seven-metre buffer zone along the River Tavy.

Backers of the scheme are West Devon Borough Council, Tavistock College, Tavistock FC and the Crowndale Recreational Association

The borough council is to submit a massive application to the Football Association for almost £900,000 in funding.

College principal Mr Simes said: ?It is a very exciting development and we are fully behind it.

?This has come through a lot of hard work by people in the community and pulling together. It will be a great triumph if we get the funding from the FA.?
