FROM moors to islands ? the Duchy of Cornwall Deputy Land Steward for Dartmoor has left to become Land Steward on the Isles of Scilly .

Colin Sturmer has worked for the Duchy since 1965, firstly in London, then moving to Dartmoor in 1970.

As deputy land steward based at Princetown he has been responsible for the management of the 67,500 acre Dartmoor Estate within the national park. He has also been responsible for the estuaries of the Tamar, Avon, Dart and at Salcombe ? including seven marinas and over 4,000 moorings.

Outside work, Mr Sturmer?s interests have been many and varied.

He was secretary of the Dartmoor Pony Moorland Scheme and, together with some others, was responsible for resurrecting the annual Dartmoor Pony Moorland Show in Princetown.

Mr Sturmer was also a runner, and has organised the Dartmoor Dash which is held on Princetown Carnival Day each year.

His other interests included being a member of the Dartmoor Rescue Group for 32 years, being a hill walker, and sailing ? he owns a 1957 Barnett class lifeboat, which he will be sailing to the islands.

Mr Sturmer officially took over his new position on April 1.

He and partner Janet will live at the White House on the Garrison on St Mary?s.

Chris Gregory, who was previously in the Duchy?s Liskeard office and has been with the Duchy for 12 years, has taken over as the new Deputy Land Steward for Dartmoor.
