A DAY of fundraising culminating in an exciting evening concert will be the latest venture in Okehampton?s efforts to aid the tsunami appeal. The day of fundraising will take place in the town on Saturday, March 12. It kicks off with two coffee mornings, in the Charter Hall and the Church Hall, followed by an array of other activities, culminating in a concert in Okehampton College sports hall at 7.30pm. With emergency aid almost all in place, the tsunami appeal has now entered a new phase and is concentrating on the reconstruction of areas devastated by the catastrophe. The Lions and Rotary clubs are both in contact with their colleagues in Sri Lanka who will identify regions with which Okehampton can link, to support the rebuilding of communities through a variety of projects. Details are likely to become known over the next few weeks. Okehampton Rotary reports that since the street collection day earlier this month, where they raised more than £4,000, they have received pledges of a further £2,000. The concert is being co-ordinated by Marilyn Tucker, of Wren Trust, who is looking for acts to help ensure a memorable night. She said: ?The concert is to be a celebration of Okehampton?s effort and will cater for all ages ? we have already had five groups sign up ? so get in touch soon if you want to be involved.? Performers can find registration forms available electronically from [email protected]">[email protected] or at Wren at 1 St James Street, Okehampton (tel: 01837 53754) or Millennium Music in the town arcade. If any organisations or villages want to join in the day and would like to co-ordinate events or if they want any assistance they are asked to contact Judy Pride on 01837 55883.
