TWO Devon women are aiming to walk Coast-to-Coast to raise funds for Exeter Leukaemia Fund (ELF). The sponsored relay walk has been organised by Frances Blackmore and Lorna Bacon, who lost their father last July to Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Frances and Lorna were so impressed by the work of the Haematology Unit in Exeter?s R D & E Hospital and the support given by ELF they have decided to do something to help. Moretonhampstead, Drewsteignton and Zeal Monachorum will all be part of the route Frances, Lorna and their team intend to walk through as they make their way from the southerly most point in Devon (Prawle Point) to the northerly most point (Foreland Point). They will be aiming to complete the walk of just under 100 miles in a total of 30 hours. Sections of the walk can be tailored to suit the requirements of each individual so that they can walk as little or as far as they like. ELF must raise some £425,000 each year to maintain their support for sufferers, and to develop new services such as outreach nursing for patients, the first time such a service, specific to leukaemia sufferers, has been introduced in the UK. Leukaemia continues to grow more quickly in the South West than anywhere else in the country. If you would like any information about how you can support the walk, call Peter Wallace on 01392 493344.
