Ref: 'bribing' coach drivers to come to Tavistock (Times, July 5): 'Unethical', what a word.

Perhaps the council should have used that word when they altered Bedford Square (where coach drivers freely parked whenever) into the useless Portuguese patio that's there now — unethical because the majority of the people of Tavistock didn't want it in the first place.

The amount paid to the coach drivers will not come from the ratepayers but from the market traders.

The answer is not giving the coach drivers money, but if they buy anything from a trader the said trader would give them 10 per cent discount on any purchase, which I will start straight away.

Perhaps Mr Roger Howard and town councillors would like to have a meeting with the market traders to discuss this and any other matter.

Being the secretary of the National Market Traders' Federation I could organise a meeting. I therefore leave the ball in your court.
