OKEHAMPTON Town Council has co-opted two new councillors to the council — Charles Letchford and Daniel Pledger.

Councillors decided to welcome both applicants to join the council at a special meeting on Monday.

Charles Letchford returns to the council, having been a member in the past. Several town councillors said his experience would be a valued asset.

Cllr Christine Marsh said: 'I'd like to support Mr Letchford's application, as he has experience of the council and his contribution was very worthwhile when he was on the council before.'

The council also welcomed aboard 24-year-old Daniel Pledger. A number of the town councillors were happy to see a young candidate put his name forward.

Cllr Terry Cummings said: 'I think it is wonderful that a young person like Mr Pledger is putting his name forward and wanting to get involved in the town council.'
