THE Son Rise Cup received a big boost this week with the news that the Co-op Community Fund has granted them a bumper £1,800 towards next year's tournament.

The annual football tournament, to be held on May 24, 25 and 26, raises monies for local charities and promotes disability football. With the 2014 World Cup finals to be held in Brazil the Tavistock tournament will have a distinctive Rio 'feel' to it.

Allen Lewis, the founder and one of the co-ordinators of the tournament, said he was 'absolutely delighted' with the generosity of the grant.

'Once again a huge thank you to the Co-op Community Fund who have donated £1,800 to fund the hire costs at the 2014 SRC.

'This enables us to cover the costs of the football grounds, the toilets, the generators and the fuel they need. The fuel charges alone last year were £300.

'The grant means we can all crack on with making this next event better than ever and with a World Cup Brazil theme we hope to have festival that celebrates the very best in football!

'A big thank you to the members of the Co-op and the community fund.'
