THE annual Plymouth half-marathon was held recently with nine local runners from Tavistock Athletic Club taking part.

The weather was a mixed bag of cool winds, sunshine, rain and even hail.

There was a large field of runners from all over the country and abroad including two Kenyans and a number of entrants from the US Marine Corps.

The total number of finishers was 1,831 in times ranging from the winner's 1hr 7mins 37secs to the last runner's 3hrs 32mins 58secs.

The Tavistock runners acquitted themselves well with the following positions and times: Robin Musgrave 1hr 22mins 31secs (82); Tim Gent 1hr 38mins 43secs (494); Alistair Loftus 1hr 47mins 28secs (803), Keith Bowles 1hr 51mins 39 (972); Peter Bazley 1hr 52mins 28secs (1007); Karen Ballantyne 1hr 56mins 40secs (1172); Karen Bradfield 2hrs 0mins 9secs (1305); Elizabeth Loftus 2hrs 8mins 17secs (1502); Helen McFarlane 2hrs 12mins 48secs (1591).

p Tavistock Athletic Club welcomes new members and they meet on Tuesdays at Tavistock College at 6pm (juniors and seniors) and Thursday at 6.15pm at the Alexander Centre (seniors only).
