THE spirit that is so prevalent in Callington Town Football Club showed itself again on Friday night when almost 100 attended the club?s annual Dinner and Presentation at the St Mellion Golf and Country Club. The stirling efforts of the players, especially since the problems in the club back in January, were remembered by all and the positive mood set by all continued throughout the evening. Before the festivities began, outgoing chairman Andrew Long asked for a toast to the memory of Norman Buckingham who sadly died three weeks earlier and the whole club remembered with great affection all that he had done for the community. The presentations were led by the managers, with outgoing 3rd team manager John Mowbray starting proceedings with the Duchy Two team?s awards. Leading goalscorer, and top scorer for the whole club, went to Shane Richards. The manager?s player trophy went to Mark Young while, for the third year running, Chris Canham won the vote of his fellow players for the coveted Players? Player award. Stewart Cawte and Paul Sanders were next up for the East Cornwall awards. Chris Truscott again picked up the Leading Goalscorer?s award with Sean Hartley winning the Manager?s player vote. The important Players? Player trophy went to Darren O?Melia. Garfield Ewing and Tim May awarded the leading goalscorer trophy to Charlie Blair. The manager?s player went to teenage keeper Jamie Harrison. The first team player?s player award went to captain Adam Reid. Secretary Phil Brown, club manager Brian Baker, and secretary Steve Bartlett were all standing down while chairman Andrew Long was also retiring after 10 years in the post. l TWO days after the End Of Season Dinner, a record turnout met at the Cricket Club for the annual meeting. After the reports were read, a new executive was elected. Bernard Harding was unanimously elected to the post of chairman, with outgoing chair Andrew Long taking the role of vice chairman. Nick Smith, a previous secretary of Callington?s large sister club, Callington Colts, was elected secretary, replacing the popular Phil Brown who stood down after 12 years in the post. The new treasurer will be Steve Woolley while Lee Rider continues in his role of development officer.
