THERE are many reasons to celebrate at Lewdown Cricket Club at the moment. Following promotion last year, the 1st XI is currently unbeaten and top Devon D Division West and the 2nd XI top Division 1 of the Tamar League. However the biggest reason for celebration is the fact that it is the Club?s centenary year. As part of Lewdown Cricket Club?s Centenary Celebrations we are holding a Sportsman?s Dinner at Jethro?s, Lewdown. It will be the main event of the year?s celebrations and will take place on Friday, July 28. Guest Speaker for the evening will be David Shepherd, who promises to offer a number of anecdotes and tales from his time as an England Umpire. There will be a three-course meal, with entertainment from comedian Mike Gold, a quiz and an auction at the end of the evening. The price for the evening is £25 per person, with all bookings to be confirmed no later than Friday July 7. With much of the proceeds going to charity, it promises to be a very entertaining evening. A full schedule of events has been planned for the season including fun evenings, barbecues, Youth Festival, a trip to Somerset CC, Devon League representative match, Cricket Carnival, Charity Walk, all culminating with a Lewdown XI playing at Lords in September. Benefiting greatly from the investment in youth and facilities, Lewdown CC continues to go from strength to strength.
