CALLING all young women who would like to get out and widen their circle of friends — the Devon Social Group needs you.

Spokesperson Cathy Dent says the Tavistock-based group welcomes all men, women and couples — but at present is particularly short of ladies in the 20 to 35 age group.

'We need more young women to come forward to join our socialising group. This is an appeal for anyone who is isolated, lonely, looking for more to do, or who is in search of an enhanced social life,' said Cathy, 36.

'Women that are single often find it difficult to go out and meet people on their own so they can come to us as a safe environment.

The group was launched four years ago by a group of friends — and now has some 300 members scattered across the county. It has at least one event a week which takes place in different areas across the county.

'We go to restaurants, night clubs, the theatre and cinemas, ski lessons, murder mysteries. We had a weekend trip to France last September,' said Cathy. She said there was no age limit to joining the group.

'Most members are in their thirties, forties and fifties and some are young sixties.

'We are unique in that we are non-specific. We cater for everybody and provide something for everybody. There are a few of us that organise and put on the events and all members receive a regular newsletter and a diary of events.'
