THE highly distinguishable voice, with its broad Scottish accent, of Doreen Johnston will no longer be heard over the bowling greens of Plymouth and West Devon.
Doreen died on August 12, having bravely fought cancer for a number of years and having defied the expectations of her doctors by her spirit and will to live.
She had been a key member of Yelverton Bowling Club?s Ladies and Mixed teams for many years and was a well known personality in the wider bowling community.
For seven years she had been the club secretary.
Even during the last weeks of her life she continued to carry out her duties ? only when her energy finally failed did she hand over the responsibilities to her successor.
