THE ladies of Okehampton Golf Club have struggled in their opening two Sheelagh Creasey matches — both away games, leaving the opportunity for an overall victory.
The first was at Tiverton Golf Club with five losses and two halves counting as 6-1 loss. The second, at Honiton Golf Club, finished as six and a half to a half, with six losses and one half the result of the day.
The President's Trophy started on a better note, with a 4-3 victory at home. The weather was dreadful and all the competitors deserved a medal for completing the competition.
If it had not been for the professional, Simon Jefferies kindly clearing the 16th and 18th waterlogged greens as the matches came in the match would have had to be abandoned!
Though the course was closed first thing Wednesday April 12, it opened about 9.30am and the ladies' par competition took place, with 11 ladies braving the wet and cold. Marcia Holwill took first place with a plus 2 — well played, especially in those conditions. Second was Mo Holland with -2, third, losing on the back 9, also -2 was Lyn Atkinson.
The Stableford played on April 19 was well supported with 15 ladies playing. This was won by Penny Deakin with 36 points. Second was Jenny Hutchinson with 34 points, and third was Val Roberts with 30 points.
