TAVISTOCK Football Club is appealing to the public not to use their pitch, following damage prior to a recent match. Eric Pinch, club secretary, said that although it might appear their ground had open access, it was in fact private property, as stated by signs at the entrance. He said there had not been too much of a problem over the years with trespass, but recently what he believed to be older children had been using the pitch. 'On Monday we had a quater-final match, and when we arrived it was obvious children or teenagers had been in the goalmouth for a period of time on Sunday. ?The constant use in a small area churns it up and it ruined the penalty area,? he said. Eric added the club was concerned about people using the grounds as a kick-about area. ?It is private property. All teams have to pay a match fee. The public are not allowed on the grounds.? The club hopes the message will prevent further damage to the pitch.
