Newquay A 2

TAVISTOCK men's hockey team, having lost their position in their league after two consecutive defeats, put the disappointing performances behind them in emphatic style.

The differences between the home side, sitting in the top flight , and regulation candidates Newquay were considerable.

Tavistock opened their account after only a few minutes, through Jefferys, who netted four, and by half time the home side were 7 – 0 the better.

The home side started the second half with an early goal by Roberts-Wray but the visitors started capitalising on play. Newquay scored their first and a second swiftly followed when they utilised the empty spaces at the back left by the home side's goal-hungry midfield.

This gave Tavistock the impetus they wanted, their networking game returned and they concluded the match with a further three well constructed goals.

Captain Nick Aveyard said: 'This was a good display by the team and an important three points but we must remember that this weekend's opposition of Plymouth away Saturday and Falmouth at home Sunday will be a lot tougher.

Goalscorers: Jefferys, Bright, Turner, Edwards and Roberts-Wray.
