IN ideal golfing weather 90 teams took part in the Captain's Drive at Tavistock Golf Club. 

Roy Friend, the new club captain playing with vice captain Richard Burrows, was delighted with the turnout.  'An excellent start to my year — good weather, a great partner and playing with such excellent company as the lady captain and her vice captain.'    

The winning team of Alan Gawman and Kenny MacKenzie came in with an exceptional of score 47 points.  Playing at 3/4 handicap this was six points ahead of the second team Chris Gawman and Adam Waddle on 41pts with juniors Will Stenhouse and Mike Henderson in third place with 40 pts. The best mixed team was Steve and Julie Harding with 40pts and the best ladies team was Patty Congo and Theresa Highes with 37pts.

There was also excellent scoring in the men's Knape Medal with George Gawman topping division one with a nett 67 followed by Jim Grant with nett 68 on countback from Mark Taylor and Rob Beveridge.  In division two Will Stenhouse continued his winning form with an excellent nett 65, which also won him the Knape Medal; second Simon Bridgewater with nett 71 closely followed by John Williams with nett 72.  First in division three Bernard Green with nett 72, second Andy Furse nett 73 and in third place Mike Sweeney with nett 74.

In the men's winter four ball better ball open Tavistock pairings swept the board with Adam Burbidge and Barry Shipton beating David Turnbull and Mark Sloman on countback with 43pts. In third place with 42pts were Max Clarke and George Gawman.  

In the ladies' medal and Withington Bowl Chris Leach was first in division one with nett 74, second Jane Wright nett 77 and in third place Tracey Sutcliffe with nett 78.  In division two winner of the Withington Bowl was Julie Harding with a superb nett 72, second was Jennie Bryant with nett 74, Sue Coles was in third place with nett 76.
