THE closure of the Old Folks’ Rest Room must have affected many elderly people — we all have a need for meaningful contact with other people and to feel you are part of the world around.
What is better than to meet up with them at the rest room such as the one in Duke Street.
I am ‘old’ myself. Our ‘minds’ are still active and capable of feelings and the warmth of feelings the contact with others can bring — without it, the spirit of life in them slowly dies.
In cricketing terms I am 95 ‘not out’ and willing to be ready for the next innings (if rain doesn’t stop play!)
I am fortunate to have my daughter near for help when required. I am sure she would be glad to drop me off at the rest room while she does the grocery shopping — at my pace it would take her twice as long.
