TIME is running out for volunteers from West Devon to be nominated for a Devon Sports Award. Active Devon, who is organising the awards, this week reminded clubs and groups of the March 28 deadline for nominations of individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to sport in Devon during 2007 to be recognised. The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday May 8 at The Tiverton Hotel and will celebrate the achievements of coaches, officials and club volunteers across Devon. The categories for nomination are: Senior coach – male; senior coach – Female; services to sport — education ; coach of disabled performers; newly qualified coach; young coach — male; young coach —female; services to Sport — Volunteer; services to sport — officials; services to sport — mentor/tutor. This prestigious event attracts nominations from the general public for coaches, volunteers, officials, tutors and teachers who give their time freely for the good of sport and physical activity in Devon. The Devon Sports Awards, co-ordinated by Active Devon, Devon's physical activity and sports county partnership, are now in their fifth year, with this year's glittering celebrations being hosted by ITV's Mark Tyler. Last year more than 100 nominations were shortlisted to 30 finalists, all invited to the evening ceremony. Robin Brew, a swimming coach at Kelly College, stole the show receiving the senior coach of the year award as well as taking home the overall winner's prize for outstanding services to sport in Devon.
