CHAGFORD?s new parking management system, which was put in place earlier this year, will undergo a further period of monitoring following a report to West Devon?s highways and traffic orders committee (HATOC) last week. Senior traffic engineer Paul Marshall told HATOC members the system, which can now be effectively policed under new traffic orders, appeared to be working well ? but needed to be monitored carefully through a summer season, when the town attracts many visitors. Mr Marshall told the meeting that police had so far issued 16 fixed penalty notices since the traffic orders had been put in place, plus 12 advisory notices. He said police had told him they found it much easier to monitor parking in the town, but had urged a review of the situation after the summer. Mr Marshall said: ?Encouragingly, there have been relatively few issues raised by the community, which I hope would suggest the scheme matches as far as possible the needs of the community.? A further report will be made to the HATOC when it meets in October.
