OKEHAMPTON Golf Club played the Stanley Bridges Salver on Saturday. The result was close, with the first three places decided on countback. Division one, 1, Paul Rattenbury 74-11-63, second and winner of the salver (best scratch score) Gareth Holt 66-3-63 and third Phil Martin 73-10-63. Division two Barry Gunn 75-18-57, second Brian Kelly 81-17-64 and third Andrew Smallridge 82-16-66 (back 9). Division three Lawrence Waldron 81-20-61, second Denis Jenkins 84-20-64 and third Dingle Shilston 85-20-65 (back 9). The ladies? wonderful season continued with Lorna McCurrach, representing Okehampton?s bronze division in the Warren Crocus, came third with gross 75, a good score in windy conditions. Dawn Phillott represented the silver division. On Friday the Devon County lady captains played their annual foursomes at Stover. Last year?s winners Maureen Willcocks and Trish Vick missed the prizes on countback. But two other Okehampton teams kept the flag flying with Kay King and Kath Mansell coming third and Doris Jewell and Cherry James second. The three top teams had 30 points with Exeter winning with 16 points on the back 9. The Okehampton teams were decided on the back 6. Wednesday?s competition was a qualifying medal. Marcia Holwill made light of the changing conditions and won the silver division with a net 69. Penny Deakin was second net 76 and third Dawn Phillott net 79. The bronze division was won by Chris Stevens net 76, second was Doris Jewell net 77 and third Jane Warren net 79. An apology is due to veteran John Leonard who was in the team that came second in the vets? autumn meeting on Monday September 25. The correct team was David Kier, John Leonard and Frank Ward.
