Tavistock v Honiton
Tavistock?s Rich Baxter met Colin Mears of Honiton in a match that was even in the opening games before Mears took the final two games easily.
Next was Stuart Cox for Tavistock and John Vallender. Stuart won a tight first game before losing the second 9-1. In the third he regained composure, winning 9-2. In the fourth John put up a brave fight before Stuart?s skills saw him through to a 3-1 victory.
In the match between Colin Grice and Richard Pyle the Honiton player began in a rich vein of form, leaving Colin floundering. This spurred Grice into action. He bounced back to win the second superbly. Pyle took advantage in the third and Grice in the fourth. In the decider Pyle?s excellent drop shots and speed around court were too much for Grice.
Another close encounter followed with Andy Gauler losing 3-2 to Colin Jones. In a bruising match the Honiton player?s weight of shot and control of the centre of the court won the day.
In the final match Jim Massey of Tavistock overcame Alan Lockman in another five game match.
On an entertaining evening Tavistock put up a creditable performance against one of the better teams in the league before going down three matches to two.
