THE day had finally arrived for this eagerly anticipated Devon Trophy Quarter Final match between Tavistock and Okehampton Men's Firsts.

Since the draw was made in September it was a game that both sides had been looking forward to.

Tavistock went into the game, at Okehampton's Simmons Park, as the underdogs against their higher league opposition but were keen to impress and maintain the form that had taken them to the top of their league.

Okehampton had the better of the early minutes creating a number of chances and looked effective on the break.

Although under pressure, the Reds' defence looked as strong as ever and Graham was doing everything to keep the ball out.

The home side got the only goal of the first half with just three minutes remaining with a clinical reverse stick effort that found its way past Graham.

As the game progressed, Tavistock started to tire, with only eleven players due to the absence of Marchant, Berry and D Stanbury — Okehampton looked to take the advantage and used their substitutes well to maintain their attacking intensity.

Midway through the second half the home side scored a second from a well worked penalty corner — with nothing to lose at 2-0 down Tavistock continued to attack and got a deserved goal through Barny Megicks from another well-worked penalty corner.

Tavistock were unable to create any other clear cut chances in front of goal as Okehampton held on for the win — a win that was deserved for the home side, who won more penalty corners and created a greater number of chances in front of goal.

Tavistock will look to bounce back next week at home when they host second placed ISCA in the league, a win would move them 12 points clear with just eight games remaining.
