Tavistock Colts 17 OPMs Colts 14 THE opening 15 minutes looked bleak for Tavistock as OPMs strung together many phases and threatened Tavistock?s line repeatedly until the OPMs? centre took a short ball and powered through to touch down under the posts. Tavistock slowly got to grips with the game and the biting wind and almost scored when skipper Vanstone flew down the left wing for 50 metres but just failed to unload to winger Braithwaite as he was tackled by the fullback. Soon after right wing Shutler was given early ball and space to work in. He touched down in the corner despite the close attention of the OPMs? winger and fullback. Vanstone missed the difficult conversion but converted the kicking tee. OPMs regained the lead after a forward drive for a half time score of 14-5. The second half belonged to Tavistock as the OPMs? pack tired and the home side?s superior fitness allowed them to keep the pressure on. Rob Shutler scored his second try of the match after outsprinting the cover for a try which Vanstone converted. Flanker Penrose enjoyed a short rest in the sin bin after incurring the referee?s wrath for several offside offences. The last 20 minutes saw Tavistock camped in the OPMs? 22 metre area but they could not break down the defence until Dave Vince powered over from five metres out after receiving the last pass of the game to touch down for victory. Man of the match was shared by all 19 squad members after an exhilarating game.
