l Both of Okehampton's squash teams played Dartington Squash Club last week. On Tuesday evening, the second team had a home victory 3-2 against their thirds, and the next evening the firsts travelled to Dartington and were defeated 3-2 by their seconds. It is highly unusual for both Okehampton teams to play the same club in the same week, especially as they compete in different divisions of the Devon Mixed Squash League.

The second team compete in division four, and on Tuesday evening Ed Bewes, Paul Burrows and Chris Law got the victories which gave Okehampton the match. Shane Vallance and Dave Harwood both put in battling performances but couldn't quite deliver a victory. It was a great result for Okehampton Seconds as Dartington are above them in the league.

The first were just beaten in their division three fixture. Clive Marais and Ed Bewes had victories, Ed's coming from a determined performance which ended 10-8 in the final game. Phil Kemsley and Dave Harding both lost and Phil Allin had a close match; after going 6-0 up in the final game, Phil couldn't finish the match off, losing 9-7 after some well fought rallies.

l Okehampton second team entertained Dartington thirds who, prior to the match, were two places higher in the Division four league. Playing at four and five respectively Shane Vallance and Dave Harwood were both involved in closely fought matches but ended up on the wrong end of a 1-3 finish.

Playing at three it took Chris Law, who showed he is nearly back to top form after a back injury, five games to overcome a strong opponent. A victory which was to prove pivotal in the final outcome of the match.

Paul Burrows playing at two enjoyed a comprehensive 3-1 victory over his opponent.

With the match evenly poised at 2-2 each it was all down to the string one match; despite losing the first game, Ed Bewes showed he is back at the top of his game by comfortably winning the next three games and securing a much needed win for the team.

The final score was Okehampton seconds 16 Dartington thirds 10.
