DOZENS of people from Princetown joined together recently to clean up a stretch of wasteland behind their homes.

The land behind Burrator Avenue was cleared to provide local children with a safe place to play.

Volunteers worked throughout the day before celebrating their achievement later in the evening with a disco and barbecue.

The event was organised by the Princetown Tenants and Residents' Association with the support of West Devon Homes. The Duchy of Cornwall arranged for the grass to be cut and provided a skip, West Devon Borough Council provided a street cleaning service, refuse bags and gloves.

It was another step towards improving the living conditions of tenants in the Burrator Avenue area, said Andy Ames of West Devon Homes, and follows the completion of a half million pound property improvements programme in the avenue and Hessary Terrace.
