CLASSIC boats from Weir Quay sailed down the Tamar to attend a rally in Plymouth last weekend.

An armada of ten Weir Quay Boatyard vessels spent the weekend at the Plymouth Classic Boat Rally ? a celebration of classic designs and traditional skills.

They were some of the 100 boats in attendance from all over the country, some of which were more than 100 years old.

The Weir Quay fleet included a replica of the yard?s Mevagissey workboat made for the owner?s son by shipwright, Roger Strawson.

Michael Hooten, owner of the boatyard, said: ?It was an exceptionally beautiful weekend and the event attracted a lot of interest from the public and other classic boat owners as we were the only yard represented.

?It?s very good for us to meet other owners and to see other boats and work that has been done.

?We had a good fun couple of days, a real celebration of traditional skills, some of the old boats were immaculate ? it? s a remarkable achievement.?
