I HAVE to confess to being one of those people who somewhat pompously declares a love for theatre or a live show and then promptly puts on a video.

Last week was the exception. My better half informed me that we would be going to the Wharf to see Calamity Jane and that I could go and get the tickets that afternoon. The staff at the Wharf were most helpful because I am quite tall and they took time to show me inside the theatre so I could ensure I had sufficient leg room ? so thank you to them.

Then came the show! I have a great fondness for Calamity Jane, having seen it in film form a number of times and I was intrigued to see how it would adapt.

I can only think of one word to describe the efforts of all those involved ? brilliant!

We came away completely won over by the sheer exuberance and professionalism of it all and humming the songs all the way home.

A special mention must be made of the two lead players, Calamity and Wild Bill Hickock ? Amanda Dadds threw herself into the title role quite wonderfully and Peter Clement amazed us with his fine voice and stage presence.

An unforgettable Thursday night ? oh yes, and by the way we went again on Saturday because we enjoyed it so much and it was even better. Thank you to you all.
