THE locally built Cornish pilot gig, Tamar, will be on show on Saturday, May 31, along with Ginette, the first gig belonging to Tamar and Tavy Gig Club. Both gigs will make their way from Weir Quay at 10.30am up the Tamar to Cotehele where they will take part in the opening of Cotehele's newly refurbished museum at midday. The gigs will then visit Morwellham Museum at 2pm, using the newly refurbished quay, which is also being opened on Saturday, before returning downstream past Cotehele. The gigs measure 34ft in length, with six oars and a cox, and are built of elm to a traditional design by Brain Nobbs, of Lifton. The Tamar will provide superb photo opportunities as well as a chance for those interested in finding out more about rowing these classic boat on the day or via http://www.tntgc.org.uk">www.tntgc.org.uk
