Okehampton Argyle U15s 4

Kentisbeare Colts 1

LAST time these two teams met Okehampton gave away a good lead and lost 6-4. This time, determined to set the record straight, Okehampton put Kentisbeare under pressure from the start and were soon rewarded with a good goal from captain Phil Woods who struck the ball cleanly from the edge of the box.

Excellent defending from Elliott Collins and Gary Sizmur denied Kentisbeare any real scoring opportunities until a corner was hand-balled, leading to a penalty. Keeper Andy Herrod-Taylor blocked the shot but the rebound was put away for the goal leaving the score 1-1 at half-time.

Matt King and Rob Clarke came on after the break and straight away Kentisbeare were under pressure. Clarke was pulled down in the box and Phil Woods scored from the spot.

From this point on Okehampton attacked with confidence and it was not long before Clarke scored one of his trademark individual goals. Matt King added the fourth following a perfect pass into the box from Clarke.

This week home. Kick-off 10.30am.

Okehampton U15s 3

Broadclyst U15s 2

BROADCLYST, unbeaten this season, were expecting an easy victory. Broadclyst kept Okehampton defending for most of the first half with wing backs Weekes and Merttens working hard and keeper Andy Herrod-Taylor making excellent saves.

Against the run of play a long ball from the keeper was picked up by Rob Clarke and driven low into the Broadclyst net. Saves at either end kept the score 1-0 at the break.

Playing with confidence in the second half Okehampton pressured the visitors. Clarke and King kept forcing errors and Woods snapped up a loose ball in the box to score the second. Rob Clarke added the third almost straight from the kick-off.

Broadclyst opened their score following a lapse in Okehampton?s defence and followed with a second from the penalty spot.

Okehampton?s defence withstood intense pressure with determined tackling and chasing from Kimber, Wooldridge and Sizmur.

This Saturday, kick-off 10.30am at home. Cup Final at St James Park, Exeter on Saturday May 10. Kick-off 1pm. Two coaches have been booked Tickets from Nick in Cinnabar (Oke Photo Centre) in the old Arcade.

North Devon League Plate final

Okehampton Argyle U12s 1

Barnstaple U12s 2

THIS game was played on neutral ground in Torrington, unfortunately in continuous rain. Top of the league Barnstaple did not have an easy win, the difference between the teams being a dubious penalty.

The first half saw Okehampton with most of the possession, passing up through the field many times but denied a finish by Barnstaple?s effective defence.

Okehampton?s defence was exceptional with Scott Tremaine and Scott Bradfield so often cutting attacks.

The second half started with the penalty but Okehampton replied when Alex Osman capped his fine performance with a chip over the keeper. Rory Honeychurch ran continuously, regaining possession and had several good shots.

Barnstaple?s winning goal was a hopeful high kick.

Stoke Gabriel

Okehampton Argyle

NINE courageous players turned out for Argyle?s last game of the season against Stoke Gabriel. It was an opportunity for some who do not normally get a chance for the whole game.

Billy Spence played with commitment throughout. His direct driving at Gabriel?s defence created several opportunities. Philip Yelland showed his capability, linking well with Scott Ditchburn and Rhys Morgan. Several crosses from the right almost produced goals.

On the left, the story was the same. Shane Monnox and Phil Evans played some exquisite passing football. Monnox?s fitness level and sprinting gave Gabriel?s defence endless problems.

The central defence of Richard Eddy and Scott Hooper held up well, providing excellent service either up the centre or down the flanks. Will Eddy?s debut in goal started a little shakily, but by the start of the second half, his handling was confident and he produced a number of good stretching saves. He commanded the defence with authority.

Man of the match: Billy Spence.

Okehampton U11s 4

Crediton U11s 1

THIS was an excellent team display from Okehampton, who took the lead after ten minutes when Gareth Osman scored with a low shot into the bottom corner of the goal.

Osman scored again within two minutes with another long shot to make it 2-0 at half-time.

Okehampton continued to pressurise Crediton which led to a goal by Robert Dunn, who lobbed the ball over the Crediton keeper. He scored again ten minutes later.

Crediton scored a consolation goal three minutes from time.

Man of the match: Gareth Osman.
