Carlsberg South Western League

Tavistock 2

Truro City 0

THE Lambs retained the same line up from the previous week despite the return of Darren Babb and Lee Beer to the squad. They had the first opening after just eight minutes but Paul Adcock?s lob over the keeper only found the side netting with Liam Heenan for the visitors shooting straight at Andy Meeds when well placed.

The home side found the net on 23 minutes when Chris Gott forced keeper Duncan Ayers to tip his goalbound shot away for a corner. James Cole?s cross only resulted in another and this time his far post cross was met by player-coach Graeme Kirkup to head home his first goal in eight seasons in the South Western League against his old club.

Gott saw another effort just sail over the bar and Ben Goldring for Truro saw his free kick take a deflection that sailed just over before the Lambs got their second on the stroke of half-time.

Nathan Blamey?s powerful header out of defence allowed Lee Doncaster to get behind the visitors? defence and coolly lob the ball over a stranded Ayers to put the Lambs in the driving seat.

The second period started with Adcock turning in the area only to shoot at the keeper but a quick break out of defence almost caught the Lambs out. Meeds just got enough of a touch on a Goldring shot for it to go for a corner and from it Peter Davey blasted over from close range.

Truro then saw Robin Watt?s effort go into the side netting and that was the end of their challenge to get back into the game.

The Lambs had the final say deep into injury time with probably the best move of the match as Wayne Crow?s run allowed Doncaster and Adcock to combine to set up Mark Wall, but his shot went just over.

A workman like performance from the Lambs that saw them do just enough to get the victory to keep them top of the table with ten games remaining.

l Fixtures: This Saturday sees the Lambs take on top of the table rivals Plymouth Parkway at the Brickfields with a 3pm kick-off.

The P& D side are also away to take on the Parkway second team at Manadon with a 2.30pm kick-off.
