ART created by children inspired by visiting a West Devon farm has gone on display in an exhibition in Hatherleigh. The Muck and Magic exhibition has gone on show at the Salar Gallery in Hatherleigh and features work created by youngsters who have visited children?s author Michael Morpurgo?s Nethercott Farm near Iddesleigh. Mr Morpurgo set up the charity Farms For City Children on the farm, with his wife, Clare, 30 years ago. The charity gives children who live in urban areas the chance to experience life on a real working farm. The exhibition features felt hangings, willow weaving, wire sculptures, drawings and poems. Music devised, played and recorded by the children during their work with the community music group Wren will also be playing in the gallery. The exhibition has come out of an artist in residence scheme now in its second year at the farm, funded by Arts Council England South West. The charity also has farms in Gloucestershire and Pembrokeshire, welcomes 3,000 children and 400 teachers a year to the farms to discover more about the rural way of life. The exhibition runs until Saturday, August 12, the gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 1pm then 2pm to 5pm but is closed on Wednesday afternoon.
