Saltash Colts 6 Tavistock Colts 7 Tavistock made hard work of this well deserved win over a very physical Saltash pack. Playing up the slope in the first half Tavistock were on the defence straight away but held their line against a strong mauling side and tackled everything they threw at them. Saltash started to move the ball away from their forwards but kicked a lot of possession away to Ewan Smith playing on the wing who was happy to run back at them. Tavistock created some great chances late in the first half after going through three or four phases and Aaron Churchill playing his second game at fly half using the ball well to move it wide but Tavistock were unable to finish. Saltash came back well and some great defence by man of the match scrum half Josh Bancroft and Dale Thompson kept them out, but they were awarded a penalty which they kicked to bring the half time score to 3-0. In the second half Saltash's big forwards started to tire and Tavistock looked the better balanced side but Saltash did not give up and were awarded another penalty on the 22m which brought the score to 6-0 and Tavistock starting to regret those missed chances. Tavistock forwards started to kick into gear with Scott Pluckrose having his best game so far. When Tavistock were awarded a penalty Jason Ward surprised everybody by taking a quick tap and driving through the opposition. The ball was recycled for Aaron Churchill to score under the posts which Rob Milligan converted. l This week the Colts are away to Crediton.
