ON the day that Plymstock earned promotion, Tavistock gave the visiting side a resounding hammering.

Tavistock won the toss and elected to field. After a flying start by Wood and Smith the Plymstock openers, Tavistock bowlers Baker and Gauler put then under pressure. As a result both Wood and Smith soon departed.

Daymond and Downham, the two Tavistock off-spinners, continued the good work and the Plymstock batsman who will not face much tougher challenges next season, capitulated.

Daymond finished with 5 for 30 and Downham with 2-34 as the Plymstock innings ended on 141 all out.

In reply the Tavistock batsman made easy work of the knocking the runs off. Aaron Churchill ended a fine first season at the ring with 51 not out and he was ably assisted by the returning skipper Dave Manning, who clubbed a quick fire 31.

Tavistock passed the Plymstock total with nearly 16 overs to spare.

This has been a good season for the town club and gives hope for the future with lots of emerging talents, starting to grow in stature.
