VISITORS to St Dominick Church will be greeted with warmth now the building's heating project has been completed.
The church now has improved convector radiators and under-pew heaters, with a new low energy boiler to power the system.
Heat loss has also been improved, with the installation of a glass tower screen in the archway leading to the tower. The old wooden tower screen has been glazed and relocated next to the south door to prevent draughts. A children's corner has also been constructed for families to use.
The total cost of the works has amounted to almost £55,000. The bulk of the funding was provided by SITA Cornwall Trust and by Viridor Credits-Caradon through the Landfill Communities Fund. Funding is available for community and environmental groups to carry out a range of improvement projects.
Additional funds were provided by the parishioners and residents of St Dominick and by the Allchurches Trust, Cornwall Historic Churches Trust, the Prince of Wales Duke of Cornwall, Rural Churches Repair Fund, St Dominick Parish Council and the Garfield Weston Foundation.
The Bishop of Truro, the Rt Rev Tim Thornton dedicated the improvements at a benefice service held in the church last month.
The benefit of these improvements will be felt in the coming months at the services and other events held in the church. The carbon footprint of the church has also been reduced as a result of the improvements.
