LAMERTON has a fine tradition of holding flower festivals and this year's event will be no exception.
With a title of 'Sixty Glorious Years' the festival, on May 3 to 6, will be celebrating the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. Village flower arrangers are being supported by local professional florists, so there will be lots of variation in style and colour. Lamerton School and WI are supporting this event which is free to visit. Donations will be in aid of St Peter's Church Tower Fund.
The church will be open from 10am to 4pm. Refreshments will be served in the Priest's Room and local organists and musicians will provide music in church during the Festival.
There will be a concert by the Callington Singers in church at 7.30pm on Friday, May 3. Joining them will be jazz duo Sarah and Richard and on Sunday May 5at 6.30pm there will be a Songs of Praise service.
A festival spokesman said: 'Our 2009 festival saw the beginning of our fundraising for repairs to St Peter's tower. We expect that this year we will achieve our goal. The much-needed repairs have now commenced with the erection of the scaffolding.
'Over the past three years we have raised £33,000 towards the total cost of £200,000. We have been fortunate to receive major awards from English Heritage, The National Churches Trust and The Devon Historic Churches Trust as well as smaller amounts from other funders.
'We expect the work to be completed by the end of the year.'
