THE 15th century St Petroc’s Church at Lydford, has recently had a new energy efficient, user friendly, lighting system installed to replace the former one, which was 50 years-old.

Visitors are now welcomed by a sensor-controlled system which highlights focal points in the church, particularly the Watchmaker’s epitaph, the rood screen and bench ends — for which St Petroc’s is famous.

The wagon roof with its bosses and carved wallplates, which was previously bathed in darkness, can now be seen in all its glory.

The PCC secured grants from the Devon Historic Churches Trust, the Balsdon Trust, the Viscount Amory Fund and All Churches Trust Ltd to help make this improvement possible.

The church is open every day during daylight hours.
