THE history of the St John the Baptist Church in Horrabridge will be brought to life on October 11, when local art historian Sue Andrew will present an illustrated talk entitled 'History in the Making' in the church. The talk will cover not only the building itself, but also the key people who were responsible for the original construction in the late 19th century and those who have contributed to its development at the heart of the community of Horrabridge in the years since then. The current church was built on the site of the 15th century Chapel of Ease, fragments of which are preserved in the churchyard. It is a Grade II Listed building which was completed in 1892 and consecrated the following year. Since 2010, the Anglican Church of St John the Baptist and Horrabridge Methodist Church have been worshipping together as the United Church of Horrabridge at St John the Baptist Church. The talk begins at 7.30pm on Saturday, October 11 and all are welcome. Entry is by voluntary contribution and refreshments will be available. All proceeds will go to the Friends of St John's, dedicated to raising funds for refurbishment projects in the church.
