EVERY saint has a saint's day, but do you know when St Eustachius' day is? It actually falls this Sunday.

And celebrating in fine style will be St Eustachius' church in Tavistock.

To begin the weekend of festive celebrations the church is holding a parish cricket match on Saturday, September 19 at the Ring, home of Tavistock Cricket Club.

A vicar's XI will take on a curate's XI, which will provide some spectator fun, starting at 1.30pm.

All members of the town are welcome, not only to spectate but also to enjoy a free tea, which will be served in the pavilion half-way through the afternoon.

After the match a hog roast will be served, along with live music.

On St Eustachius' day, Tavistock Parish Church is hosting a visit from St Eustace's Church, Ibberton, in Dorset — the only other church in the country wholly dedicated to the same saint.

Following the celebratory family communion service in the morning at 9.45am, visitors from Dorset will be given a tour of St Eustachius' Church, and join the Friends of St Eustachius for a cream tea in the parish centre.

The parish priest of Ibberton, the Rev Shirley Smith, will then preach at the special festival evensong service at 6pm, to which everyone is invited.

The priest-in-charge of Tavistock, the Rev Michael Brierley, said, 'It's very appropriate that St Eustachius' Church celebrates St Eustachius' day in fine style.

'This will be a terrific family weekend, and everyone is extremely welcome to join in the fun.'
