COUPLES who married at Tavistock Parish Church are being invited back for a special celebration on February 9. The celebration of marriage service will be held during National Marriage Week — whether newly married or married for 50 or 60 years, all couples who tied the knot at St Eustachius are welcome to attend. There will be an opportunity during the service for couples to renew and reaffirm their wedding vows if they wish, and afterwards there will be a celebration cake and a glass of wine to enjoy. Church records are being used to make contact with people, but an appeal is also being made to the public to get in touch. Anyone who was married in Tavistock or has friends, relatives or neighbours who were, but have since moved away, is being asked to contact the parish office with names and addresses. Assistant priest at Tavistock the Rev Jackie Giddings said: 'We can trace back 15 years from our own records but we would also like to hear from the couples who have been married longer than that who we cannot trace, especially those who have celebrated ruby and golden weddings. 'We really want to celebrate the success of marriage and the place it holds in the community. There are plenty of lasting, fulfilling marriages around but they do not hit the headlines.' The Rev Giddings added: 'We realise that National Marriage Week will be very poignant for those who have lost their life's partner but nevertheless they too may wish to celebrate and give thanks for the years that they shared. 'Indeed, anyone will be welcome to come and join the celebration, married or single, including those married elsewhere — the more the merrier.' The service is at 3pm and the parish office can be contacted on 01822 616673.
