WHEN Linda Evans received an invitation to sing in Truro Cathedral for a radio broadcast she was 'absolutely astounded'.

Linda, who runs Maestro Music in Tavistock with her husband, Tony, has sung in the cathedral before as a member of the Callington Singers.

But when she recorded two songs in Truro on Monday it was the first time she had given a solo performance in the impressive cathderal.

Linda was one of a number of musical guests taking part in BBC Radio Cornwall's Festival of Christmas Music. The recording will be divided into two with the first part broadcast on Christmas Day between 2pm and 3pm and the second on Boxing Day between noon and 1pm.

'I was overjoyed and thrilled to be invited. It is quite a coup for me. To be picked for a Christmas Day broadcast is very special,' said Linda.

She sang two of her favourite songs : 'Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy' and 'Silent Night'. Linda was accompanied on the piano by well-known Tavistock music teacher and performer Mary Mazur.
