THIS weekend two West Devon churches will be telling local people something of the Christian faith.

An historical exhibition was held last weekend in South Tawton, tracing Christianity through the centuries, as part of the Springboard Mission weekend — an initiative of the Archbishops of Canterbury and York.

Rev Barry Wood, priest-in-charge of South Tawton and Belstone, said it was a huge success and early indications were that this weekend's event would be too.

This weekend starts Saturday with a family party for children and young people and offering a barbecue, games and drama. That takes place from 4-7pm on Saturday September 30 in Belstone Village Hall.

On Sunday there is a special service for young people at Belstone church from 9.45 to 10.15am. Geoff Kimbar of Springboard will be guest speaker. Bere Ferrers will be holding a dinner, with Simon Everett from Springboard as guest speaker.

The rev Nicholas Law said he was expecting 64 people to turn out at the church hall on Saturday evening for a harvest feast entirely sourced locally.St Andrews at Whitchurch will be holding a harvest family party at the local school from 4.30pm on Saturday and a cream tea at 4.30pm on Sunday before a Songs of Praise at the church at 6pm.
