THE new musical director of All Saints Church has helped to treble the number of choir members since he took up the position.

Tim Matthews became musical director three months ago. He said: 'At full strength we've had over thirty singers attending practices.

'We're hoping to tour with the choir this year, and as it's New Year, we're inviting singers to join us for an exciting programme of special services and concerts at which we'll be singing a wide range of popular choral music.

'There really is something for everyone, from the music of John Rutter to the early Renaissance.

'We've been lucky to gain several very musical recruits recently, and I hope we'll be able to make our mark locally and regionally.'

The choir also enjoyed a successful Christmas period, with a Carols by Candlelight service, with 19-year-old soprano Catherine White from the Royal Welsh Academy of Music and Drama joining them for several carols, including Silent Night and O Holy Night.

Anyone interested in joining the choir can attend practices every Wednesday at All Saints Church from 7pm.
