MORE than 200 people crowded into St Andrew's Church, Bere Ferrers recently to hear an evening concert given by the Mousehole Male Voice Choir.

The programme was well balanced and varied, the choir opened with 'Divine Brahma' (Pearl Fishers) by Bizet, conducted by Tom Waters.

Margaret Green was the soloist who sang well-known favourites such as 'Bless this House' and 'Abide with Me'. She was accompanied by Margaret Bilkey.

The section on spirituals was popular.

John Harry, the accompanist, proved he had other strings to his bow as he recounted a poem about gossips in a typical Cornish village — which could have been applicable to Devon too — Bere Ferrers!

The melodic 'How Soon' by Tom Waters was thought provoking, and the baritones excelled themselves with 'Shenandoah' and 'My Heart will go on' from the film Titanic.

The evening concluded appropriately with a Celtic finale.
