PLYMOUTH and West Devon 'Talking Newspaper for the Blind', a Tavistock-based charity, held a successful 'flag day' street collection in Tavistock on Thursday and Friday, April 18 and 19.

This annual street collection is crucial in making it possible to continue providing a free, weekly talking newspaper service to the blind in the West Devon area.

There were plenty of generous townspeople and visitors out and about and a total of £1,433 was collected which, in the present economic environment, speaks highly to the generosity of Tavistock folk.

Through the Times, we would like once again to thank the kind people of Tavistock and everyone involved in the collection, for their generous response.

On the following Saturday and at the opening concert of the Tavistock Music and Arts Festival in St Eustachius' Church, the South West Chamber Choir also very generously included a credit to the 'Talking Newspaper' by offering a portion of their evening receipts. We would also like to take this opportunity to record our great thanks to the choir and to say what a wonderful performance they gave.
