IF you have wanted to learn the art of Chinese painting now is your chance.

Chinese artist Li Xiao Bai is holding a two-day course at Tavistock Town Hall on Saturday and Sunday, March 24 and 25.

'I will be teaching people the basic technique. I can take a complete beginner and show them simple strokes and how to use the material,' says Xiao Bai. A full-time artist who taught in a Chinese university, he came to Britain to study English contemporary art and decided to stay.

Using mainly ink and rice paper he will take his students on an artistic voyage of discovery.

He says there is a different spirit in Chinese art which involves the imagination and allows it to enter the composition because of its free flowing simplistic style
