FIREFIGHTERS were called to reports of a chimney fire at a property in Callington last Thursday evening (March 19).

One pumping appliance with a crew of six firefighters from Callington Fire Station attended the incident. Upon arrival the crew called for the smaller Land Rover appliance as access to the property was narrow.

The crews found the three storey property's woodburner had a chimney with very difficult access and the best access to the chimney breast was found to be via the first floor bedroom.

Crews used one hose reel jet, a stirrup pump and rods and small gear to extinguish the fire, which was accidental and confined to the chimney itself.
