THE Yelverton Golf Club Christmas Turkey Trot was held in cold and bleak conditions on the moor.  However, Christmas cheer was much in evidence as the members received their prizes of meat and alcohol from the captain, John May. 

James Smith won a six-litre bottle of Rioja, a donation from the promoters Rioja Bordin.  This was the first competition that the prize was competed for, and James won the prize for his hole-in-one on the par 3 17th hole.

The overall winners of the better ball competition were Mervyn Graygoose and Phil Pond with 43 points. In second place was Andy Thompson and Mike Casey with 42 points, and third was Gary Hawking and Paul Woods also with 42 points.  James Smith and his partner Stewart Barnes were also in the prizes with a score of 40 points.

l The December stableford at Yelverton Golf Club was played on November 27 in wet and windy conditions. Penny Hunter was the winner in division 1 (27 points) and Joan Voisin the runner-up (23 points).

In division 2 Elizabeth Calder was the winner (34 points) and Sheila Brookbank runner-up (33 points).
