INTERNATIONALLY acclaimed author of children's books Simon James spent a day at Okehampton Primary School last week as part of National Book Week.

The Plymouth writer spoke to the children about his inspiration for his books which include 'Sally and the Limpett' and 'Dear Greenpeace' and talked them through the writing process. Mr James also illustrates his own books.

The children, who were dressed in their favourite storybook characters from Harry Potter to Dennis the Menace, were then treated to a storytelling session from the author.

Headteacher Brian Cunningham said it was a real pleasure to have a visit from Mr James who always enthused the children about writing and producing books.

'Parents have come to me and said their child has written and illustrated his/her own book as a result of this day and that is wonderful,' he said.
